Frenchman's Forest Natural Area

Located on East Side of Frenchman's Reserve

From Frenchman's Forest Website:
The natural area contains seven Florida native ecosystems: mesic flatwoods, scrubby flatwoods, wet flatwoods, strand swamp, hydric hammock, mangrove swamp, and a small depression marsh. The tidal pond within the mangrove swamp was created in the 1960s, when soil was removed for use as fill for the construction of adjacent residential developments.

Five thousand red mangrove seedlings were planted around the edge of the pond as part of a wetland restoration project. Nearly 400 trees and palms, including the cabbage palms lining the entrance road, were relocated to the natural area from a site approved for development. The natural area was purchased in 1995. State Preservation 2000 matching funds for the acquisition were provided by the Florida Communities Trust.

Frenchman's Forest Natural Area

"A Walk in the Forest"

One of the little known benefits to living in Frenchman's Reserve is that it is contiguous to Frenchman's Forest Natural Area.

This 158-acre natural area is part of a countywide system of natural areas, protected to maintain the diversity of biological communities and species in Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County purchased the natural area from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 1995.

The natural areas are open to the public for educational use and passive recreational activities such as hiking, nature photography, and bird watching.

There are 14 Custom Homesites in Frenchman's Reserve whose backyards border the Forest, but there are only five Frenchman's Forest homesites still available.

Frenchman's Forest is open seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset. If you and your family members are looking for something different to do, take "A Walk in the Forest."
